Launched in early April, the Lurgan & District Horse & Cattle Show Society had double reason to celebrate.

Show Patron Hugh Harris attended the event at the historic Brownlow House in Lurgan with the aptly named Duchess, a horse owned by Hugh.
In addition, the show launch event saw the unveiling of the new show website- www.lurganshow.co.uk
This year's show event will occur on Saturday June 7th.
The Society chairman Winston Humphries thanked the large crowd attending and expressed his desire to see the show grow and expand as it has indeed been doing over recent years. A special word of thank you was expressed to the many sponsors who also attended.
.
Craigavon Borough Council Mayor Mark Baxter attended this past week’s launch event and congratulated those involved in organising the annual event.
He commented: “The Council is delighted to have the opportunity of working alongside the Lurgan Show committee. The show is really the only large event of its type in the  area and the organising committee have again promised to bring a tremendous degree of colour and excitement to Lurgan Park on June 7th. It is an event for all the family and I would heartily encourage as many people as possible to come along on the day.”
Jim Harrison, President of the Irish Shows Association was particularly pleased with the show launch, having travelled from Castleblayney.
“I would like to commend the Lurgan Show Committee and the Chairman for the vision they have with the Lurgan Show and indeed especially in this the second century of the event".

Sections catalogued for this year’s Lurgan Show include home industries, poultry, horses, ponies, donkeys, carriage driving, cattle, sheep, goats and vintage vehicles.
There is also a large craft village, dozens of trade stands, numerous side shows including archery, a tractor build display team, stunt bike display, the ever popular funfair and a traditional skills village.
Competitors will be attending from province wide and in particular the home industries section attracts large entries from local school children as well as the best of Home cooking.
“More than ever, Lurgan Show will be an opportunity to promote the farming and equestrian communities. Exhibitors compete for a wide selection of silverware plus prize money. There are also opportunities to gain points for various breed society awards and qualify for prestigious finals at shows throughout Ireland" stressed Chairman Winston Humphries.

There will, of course, be a real focus on a family fun day out in 2014.
