All set for Lurgan Show 2022 with Main Sponsor Translink!

 

Lurgan & District Horse & Cattle Show Society Ltd will be hosting their annual Show on Saturday 4th June 2022, after a two year absence owing to the recent Coronovirus pandemic.

 

The countdown is now well underway to the County Championship event which is one of the first shows in the Northern Ireland summer agricultural show calendar.

 

The Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council, Alderman Glenn Barr hosted a Sponsors reception and Show Launch evening last week in the Craigavon Civic & Conference Centre.

 

Lurgan Show are pleased to have a number of key sponsors supporting this year’s event which includes Translink and Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council.

 

Guest speakers at the event were Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots, Aidan Smyth of Translink and William Irvine, UFU Deputy President.

Show Secretary Michele Doran welcomed everyone to the launch of the 107th Lurgan Show,and spoke stressing the unique asset rural agricultural shows bring to the community and the wider economy and the need for more businesses to get behind sponsorship for community capacity building events such as your local agricultural show.

CHARITIES

Lurgan Show will also be supporting a nominated charity during the 2022 show, this being Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI.

 

PET SHOW

With around 15 classes, the Pet Show attracts in excess of 100 pets each year.

 

 

HOME INDUSTRIES and SCHOOLS

It is with regret that the Home Industries and Schools section will not be running in 2022, this owing to the continuing Covid restrictions and within the Kings Park School premises, used for the display of exhibits.

 

POULTRY

Sponsored by a number of supporters including John Thompson & Sons Ltd, H Beattie & Son, Frazers Animal Feeds and R & J Lyness Ltd, the poultry section features 111 classes for Bantam Soft & Hard Feather, waterfowl, Large Soft Feather & Rare Breeds. Please note: This section may be unable to run at date of show, this pending latest government guidelines on Bird Flu restrictions.

VINTAGE SHOW

The Vintage section is a real attraction for both young and old to see the tractors and other machinery which served past generations on the land. Vehicles can simply arrive on show day and must enter the showgrounds via Windsor Avenue entrance. Exhibitors receive a specially produced ceramic mug. Entry fee is £10.

TRADE

Over 100 Trade Stands annually attend Lurgan Show. The closing date for applications is fast approaching and indoor stall space is already well filled. For further details contact: Michele- 07732172214

 

 

CATTLE

 

A large entry of animals is expected in the pedigree breeds Aberdeen Angus, Hereford, Blondes, British Blues, Simmental, Limousin, Beef Shorthorn and Charolais sections with a number of judges travelling a considerable distance to judge.

Lurgan Show thank a range of local businesses and people for sponsoring the Cattle section including Ryan Lavery, Lurgan; Danske Bank; Kersia; Genus, the Bank of Ireland and the Limousin club.

94 Classes are available in the Cattle Section across many different breeds.

 

DAIRY CLASSSES & CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lurgan Show hosts Dairy classes for Shorthorns, Ayrshires, Holstein’s and Jersey breeds and in 2022, a qualifier for the Thompson’s/ NISA Dairy Cow Championship will be available.

Qualifiers will also be available in the ABP Pedigree Beef Heifer Championship and the Bank of Ireland/ NISA Pedigree Junior Bull Championship.

 

YOUNG HANDLERS

Young exhibitors are encouraged to get into the ring to show off their skills, with two classes in dairy, beef and sheep.

Young people are the future of shows and Lurgan Show wishes to encourage young persons to become involved in handling and showing. Junior Handling Classes in the Cattle section are kindly sponsored by Woodside Farm.

 

 

SHEEP CLASSES & CHAMPIONSHIPS

For 2022, the Show Society are pleased to have continued support with sponsorship of the sheep section with key support from; Clubworld Travel, Lurgan, Kingarrow Jacobs, Freeburn Farm Feeds, R & J Lyness Feeds Ltd, Farmline Agricultural Supplies, Dromara; Lurgan Veterinary Clinic and L A Richardson & Son Butchers and the NI Texel Breeders Club.

Exhibitors competing in 102 classes will also have excellent opportunities with Qualifiers for many different breeds including the Volac NI Texel Show Flock competition, Danske Bank NISA Sheep Championship; the NI Continental Sheep final foe ewe or ramand the Cydectin Young Handlers Qualifier.

Lurgan Show are pleased to welcome new breeds to the forthcoming show, with 8 classes again provided for the Berrichon breed, with the Valais Blacknose and Jacob classes making an appearance for the first time.

In addition, classes will once again be held for the Blue Texel. Judges will be travelling from across Ireland.

GOAT SECTION

The popular goat section will be judged this year by renowned judge Lindsay Greer, Ballyclare, with 12 classes for many different breeds.

PYGMY GOAT SECTION

EQUESTRIAN SECTION

Lurgan Show continues to attract increasing numbers with classes for horses and ponies; driving; donkey; pony club show jumping.

Lurgan Show also offer qualifiers in this section and for 2022 for the North of England Summer Show;  show pony and show hunter pony championship for the Gribben Family supreme ridden Pony championship; M & M Ridden Championship and qualifiers for the NPS Area 32 Championships. In addition, the Ardrahan All Ireland Ridden Hunter championship qualifier; the Red Mills two year old Gelding All Ireland Qualifier

Equestrian Secretary Mrs Ros Ewing will be endeavouring to do all to ensure that a great display of classes will be running all day.

The Show Society are pleased to be able to offer Pony jumping classes, organised and supported by the Killultagh Pony Club. These classes will be hosted on the hill overlooking the magnificent Lake and rolling showgrounds below.

DONKEYS/ DRIVING CLASSES

Driving Classes will once again return to the Avenue Road end of the Showgrounds and accessed via the main showgrounds entrance from Avenue Road. The Driving section is organised by the Whip & collar club and all enquiries should be to Paul- 07803191766. This section is kindly sponsored by Lyons NI.

BUILD A SCARECROW COMPETITION

The Show Society welcome entries from families, groups or individuals to build a free standing scarecrow not higher than 150cm or five feet. All scarecrows must be delivered to the Showgrounds on Friday 3rd June
